![]() ![]() Through a constructivist paradigm, the methodologies of philosophical hermeneutics and new historicism, I entered Gillespie’s text to examine the themes which emerged within her narrative in the light of what is seen as “traditional autobiography”-a genre historically inhabited by white males and seen as stories of “achievement and quest.” Based on Smith and Watson’s characterization of “autobiographical acts” (63), I claim that Gillespie’s sense of autobiographical positionality, rhetorical moves, and audience awareness, discovered in the writing of her diary, makes her diary as much an autobiography as those that were intentionally written as such. ![]() Bangkok, Tailandia - 24 de julio de 2022: Portada del libro titulado 'Diario de Ana Frank', la adaptación gráfica de Ari Folman. ![]() ![]() There is a point in this book where the story just truly breaks my heart, and although sad it shows just how multi-faceted the characters that Sarah Zane has created truly are. Daisy has dreams and aspirations of a woman beyond her time, but also feels the need to settle down with a true love match while still pleasing society and becoming a woman wed. I simply *love* everything about this book. Jay, a young soldier, who shares Daisy's feelings, unfortunately is shipped off to war leaving Daisy behind. "Society told me I was worthless unless I meant something to a man"ĭaisy details her hope of finding real love instead of conforming to the societal norm of the time and quickly meets Jay Gatsby. Hamilton was among the most intellectually gifted of the Founding Fathers, rivaling in ability his arch foe, Thomas Jefferson, but he lacked practical political experience and failed to win support for many of his most cherished ideas. He combined a natural affinity for aristocratic values with a generally pessimistic view of human nature and concluded that successful government must be strong and must win the support of men of property and social standing. Tiring of journalism in the mid-1960s (he was assistant editor of the Glasgow Herald), he decided to use Hughes’ creation as the anti-hero in his own Victorian adventure story. MacDonald Fraser had read Thomas Hughes’ Tom Brown’s Schooldays, a bestselling Victorian novel, as a boy and immediately recognized the drunken bully Flashman as the unacknowledged ‘star’ of the book. ![]() The books became the literary inspiration for my own four histories ( The Homicidal Earl, The Indian Mutiny, Zulu, Victoria’s Wars) and two historical novels ( Zulu Hart and Hart of Empire) on the same subject.
